This page is a plain-language summary of section 3 (Data Rights and Commercial Use) and section 4 (Data Retention, Derived Data and Post-Termination Use) of the SportsAPI Pro Terms of Service. The Terms are the governing document; if anything here is unclear, the Terms control.

Retention

There is no storage cap and no deletion obligation. Any data you lawfully retrieved with your own API key while your subscription was active may be kept indefinitely for your internal use. Local caching, warehousing, and archival copies are all permitted.

After your subscription ends

Expiry, cancellation, or downgrade stops your ability to make new API requests. It does not require you to delete or stop using data you already obtained. Retention and internal-use rights for previously retrieved data survive indefinitely. The one exception is termination for breach of the Terms, where we may require deletion.

Derived data and models

Normalized result records and anything you derive from them are yours. That includes win/loss labels, computed statistics, engineered features, model weights and parameters, backtest results, and evaluation reports. We make no ownership claim over your models or derived artifacts.

Raw responses

Raw API responses may be retained indefinitely for audit, provenance, and reproducibility. The retention right is identical to normalized data. The difference is exposure: a raw payload dump is functionally a redistribution of the feed, so raw responses must not be published, shared in bulk, or made accessible to third parties. Internal audit copies, including copies held by your auditors under confidentiality, are fine.

Provenance metadata

You may retain source and API version identifiers, receipt timestamps, and your own hashes or internal identifiers for a provenance chain. Per the no-attribution rule in section 3 of the Terms, this metadata is for internal use and should not be used to attribute the data to any third-party provider in a public product, marketing material, or documentation.

Restrictions

The following are not permitted, during or after your subscription:
  • Reselling, redistributing, or sublicensing the data
  • Publicly republishing the data or operating a public API, feed, dataset, or mirror derived from it
  • Providing bulk access to the data to third parties
  • Sharing your API key
Publishing your own aggregate insights, analysis, or model outputs is permitted. The restriction applies to the data itself, not to your conclusions.
